Custom Home Design & Build

24 Summer St. Dartmouth, MA

Architect designed rambling Vermont style farmhouse
Currently in progress: 24 Summer Street is an architect-designed rambling Vermont-style farmhouse in appearance, but it’s built to the latest cutting-edge energy efficiency using a heat-pump HVAC system and super-tight insulation. The prominent feature of the house is the soaring timber-frame great room which is 40 feet long and 28 feet high. The oak timbers were brought down from Vermont by the timber-frame crew, who have built a previous home for these customers in Vermont.

Off the great room towards the front of the house is the master bedroom wing, which features a private library, bedroom, his and her bathrooms, a large walk-in closet, and its own laundry room. The rear section of the greenroom leads to the huge cathedral ceiling kitchen, with a double farmers sink, two islands, top-of-the-line appliances, and an entrance to a three-season porch overlooking the pool in the backyard.

Behind the kitchen are two additional guest bedrooms which are ensuite, a pantry and another laundry room. Above the bedrooms, there’s a giant rec room with its own bath, and a doorway into the bonus space above their three-car oversized garage. The lower level of the home includes a spacious caretaker apartment with walk-out daylight windows, and its own kitchen and bathroom. The remaining unfinished basement is easily big enough to hold two bowling alleys, and still have room left over for storage and mechanicals. The homeowners love nature and very much wanted to preserve the large oak tree on the property, so it’s now a central feature in the driveway area.
